According to information reported by TF1 Infothe Béhuard sanctuary, located in the department of Maine-et-Loire, is at the heart of tensions. Since a new religious leader took charge of the place, the daily life of the inhabitants of this small island town has been turned upside down.
The revitalization of the sanctuary has led to an increase in religious ceremonies and events, invading public space and disturbing some residents who are struggling to come to terms with these changes.
Dissatisfied residents
The complete renovation of the sanctuary, financed largely by the bishopric and donations, allowed a reopening with intensified religious activities. Services are held several times a day, accompanied by carillons which punctuate the villagers’ day, creating an unusual crowd in this quiet town.
However, part of the population, despite the growing abundance of pilgrims, expresses its dissatisfaction with the invasive presence of these manifestations of faith. This religious dynamism has raised concerns about cohabitation between residents and the sanctuary, in this town of 125 inhabitants.
