How to calculate your bonus?
To calculate the bonus, Workers who earn more than the minimum wage must divide their monthly salary by 30 (the number of days in the month) and multiply the result by 15.which is the minimum number of days established by the Federal Labor Law (LFT) for the bonus.
How many days are paid bonuses?
The LFT establishes that, although each company can decide how many days to pay, The minimum required is 15 days. The total bonus must be delivered no later than December 20and although it can be paid in two parts, the total sum must be available to workers before that date.
What is known about the double bonus reform?
At the beginning of this year, It was proposed to increase the bonus to 30 days. The president of the Senate’s Labor and Social Security Commission, Napoleón Gómez Urrutia, promoted this reform, pointing out that Mexico has one of the lowest annual bonuses compared to countries like Peru, China and Hong Kong, which offer 30 days to their workers.
Despite these efforts, the proposal has not advanced significantly since its presentation in March. On the other hand, the federal representative of Morena, Lidia García Anaya, has proposed to modify Article 87 of the LFT to increase the bonus to 20 daysa reform that has not been implemented since its entry into force in 1973.
