A total of 28 health workers have been killed in the last 24 hours in Lebanonwhere 37 facilities in the sector have had to be closed in the south of the country, indicated this Thursday the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
In his weekly press conference, the head of the WHO also pointed out that in Beirut three hospitals have had to be completely evacuated of staff and patients, and two others have carried out partial evacuations, due to the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in the last two weeks.
“Health and humanitarian workers are working in truly difficult and dangerous conditions, with limited supplies, and the health system continues to be attacked,” denounced Tedros.

The head of the WHO also regretted that many health system workers cannot go to work in health centers due to the bombings, and that The almost total closure of the Beirut airport has prevented the shipment of medical supplies that the WHO agency had planned to carry out this Friday.
Tedros also considered “a dangerous escalation that could have dangerous consequences for the region” Iran’s recent missile attack on Israeli territory.
“The WHO advocates for a de-escalation of the conflict, for the protection of health services, maintaining safe passageways for humanitarian supplies, and negotiating a ceasefire,” Tedros concluded.
