In the midst of a complex judicial context and a debate that involves two of the most high-profile cases in Colombian politics, Laura Ojeda, partner of Nicolás Petro Burgos – son of President Gustavo Petro – spoke out about her partner’s legal situation.
This happened after a preparatory hearing was held for the trial against former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez for the crimes of bribery of witnesses and procedural fraud. The controversy broke out when both the leader of Centro Democrático and his defense lawyer, Jaime Granados, withdrew from the proceedings alleging a “lack of guarantees.”

The judge in the case, Sandra Liliana Heredia, denied the request to postpone the hearing to allow Uribe’s defense to analyze the full content of witness Juan Guillermo Monsalve’s devices. Jaime Granados expressed that they needed more time to evaluate all the evidence.
However, the judge emphasized that the defense had already received a mirror copy of the elements since September 12 and that the process should continue, considering the statute of limitations alert for the case for October 2025. Given the refusal, the lawyer left the hearing, followed hours later by the former president himself.
This incident was the subject of a notable response from journalist Vicky Dávila, who through her social networks expressed her concern about the treatment received by former President Uribe. The communicator described the process as “disrespectful” and accused the judge of acting in a “biased” manner.
The journalist highlighted that former President Uribe had been respectful and cooperative with the justice system at all stages of the process, while questioning the judge’s impartiality and pointing out that her attitude seemed less than fair.
“Álvaro Uribe has appeared before justice, he has been respectful. He has not gone into exile and has attended all hearings, at all procedural stages. The judge in the case seems hostile towards the former president, treats him with disdain and does not respect him. It looks biased and that cannot happen with Uribe, nor with any other citizen, no matter how simple it may be,” Dávila wrote in an extensive message published in X.
Vicky Dávila added that the country’s judges deserve respect for their work, but pointed out that the judge in the former president’s case “stripped the line,” which did not reflect a good way to demonstrate her impartiality in the process: “The judges in Colombia are They are brave and deserve all the respect, we must support them and accompany them, if their work is fundamental for democracy, but the judge in the Uribe case, I think, peeled the copper. “That is not good for the country or for democracy itself.”
However, what truly caught the attention was the response of Laura Ojeda, who used Vicky Dávila’s statements to draw a parallel between Uribe’s case and that of Nicolás Petro. The woman denounced what she perceives as a double standard in media coverage and judicial treatment of her partner.
Ojeda responded directly to Dávila’s message, mentioning that: “You are describing some MISSESSIONS that have been committed with Nicolás Petro, but since he is the son of the president and the left, that is why your hatred supports all INJUSTICES (sic).”
With these words, Ojeda suggested that the criticism towards the process of former President Uribe and the empathy shown by the journalist contrasted strongly with the attitude towards her partner, who is under public scrutiny and facing accusations against him, due to the process carried out by the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation against him, for the crimes of money laundering and illicit enrichment, suspecting that he received illegal money during his father’s presidential campaign in 2022.
