Liputan6.com, Jakarta – In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) technology has become one of the leading innovations dominating global conversations.
With enormous potential to transform industry, the economy and everyday life, AI also presents a new set of challenges, especially for the ASEAN region.
Hal ini diungkap oleh Abhineet Kaul, Director of Econimics Strategy Access Partnership; H.E. Naraya S. Soeprapto, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs; Andrew Ure, Goverment Affairs and Public Policy Google SEA di AI Opportunity Southeast Asia Forum.
Held at the ASEAN Secretariat, Wednesday (2/10/2024), the AI Outlook in Southeast Asia panel discussion discussed AI in the ASEAN region.
In the latest discussion, the three highlighted how AI, digital infrastructure and talent development are key pillars in ensuring the region is able to compete globally.
However, this journey is full of challenges, especially in terms of ethics, equitable access, and cross-border collaboration.
Digital Infrastructure and Talent Development
One of the main focuses in this discussion was the importance of strong digital infrastructure and sustainable talent development.
“This region has experienced rapid progress in building digital infrastructure, including installing undersea cables in Indonesia. However, infrastructure alone is not enough,” said Andrew.
“There is a huge opportunity around talent development. Together with the ASEAN Foundation, we will train 5.5 million people in the region, a very large number and the largest in Southeast Asia.”
Not only that, AI also enables wider inclusion through technological innovation, such as language translation.
With more than 250 languages already in Google Translate, AI continues to drive this progress, and the goal is to reach 1,000 languages in the future.
