Who says a murderer necessarily has to be a violent person? In the newly expected crime series Mindful murder (2024) (of Murder Mindfullyas the project is marketed) we meet mafia lawyer Björn, who “has never fought in his entire life” but is now not averse to being eliminated from time to time. Somewhere between mindfulness and maniacal, the trailer now shows what you can expect from the Netflix series.
Search for inner peace
Main character Björn Diemel (the prominent German actor Tom Schilling) is a top lawyer who turns into a murderer later in life. The mindfulness seminar he is taking initially serves to create a better balance between his work and private life, but then things take a major turn. Can extreme actions seriously help him find the inner peace he’s looking for?
Man with two faces
The idea of an extreme two-faced lawbreaker reminds us a bit American Psycho (2000) in Dexter (2006–2013). Both titles are particularly interested in the psychological contrast between appearance and reality that can occur with ‘civilian’ murderers. Mindful murder seems to tie in with the logical, but somewhat premature idea that an ‘ordinary’ man can never simply be considered capable of doing the worst.
“Mindfulness can break noses,” the trailer says. So count on a lot of intriguing contradictions, and hopefully a new favorite on your viewing list. The source material is a novel by Karsten Dusse, and in addition to Schilling, The Last Kingdom actress Emily Cox can also be admired in the episodes.
Mindful murder will from October 31 can be seen on Netflix, and therefore fits smoothly into the streaming service’s Halloween schedule.
