Google has so many connected apps that even the best Android phones today benefit from this connection. One example is managing PDF files which we often use.
Even if you download a special PDF reader or editor application, for occasional needs, the Files by Google application, which is the default file manager on Pixel phones, is quite helpful.
However, currently the Files application only functions as an intermediary that directs PDF management to the Google Drive application, which is equipped with complete reading and editing tools.
Quoted from Andoid PoliceMonday (30/9/2024), even the Chrome browser used by billions of people also relies on Drive to handle PDFs. Without Drive, the Files application can only read PDFs basically, without any other capabilities other than scrolling the document.
The good news is that big changes are happening. Google tipster @AssembleDebug reported to Android Authority that there is a hidden feature in the latest beta version (1.4955.677425801.0-release) of the Files app.
This feature allows the Files app to manage PDFs independently, without help from Drive.
However, this new feature is only available on Android 15. The PDF editing tools embedded in the Files application include the ability to zoom, select text, search for words in a document, and even open password-protected PDF files.
