Liputan6.com, Jakarta – China succeeded in making a breakthrough by launching the world’s first hydrogen-powered intercity high-speed train. This train, named CINOVA H2, was exhibited at the InnoTrans 2024 event which was held in Berlin, Germany.
Quoting information from China DailyTuesday (1/10/2024), CINOVA H2 was developed by CRRC Qingdao Sifang, a subsidiary of China Railway Rolling Stock Corp based in Shandong province, China.
The train is said to be fully capable of running on hydrogen power. Therefore, this train is said to be able to achieve zero carbon emissions throughout its journey.
Not only that, this fast train also offers higher speed, greater passenger capacity and longer range.
It was explained that the CINOVA H2 uses a hydrogen fuel cell to produce electricity through an electrochemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen.
Equipped with a high-power fuel cell of up to 960kW, according to senior designer at CRRC Qingdao Sifang Liang Caiguo, this train is capable of traveling at a speed of 160km/h and a top speed of 200km/h.
“This train has an ultra-long range of 1,200km with a cruising speed of 160km/hour, and a full refueling time only takes 15 minutes,” said Liang.
CINOVA H2 is said to be able to carry more than 1,000 passengers, thus strengthening its title as a high-capacity and environmentally friendly transportation solution.
Liang said that hydrogen fuel cells for trains only produce water as a byproduct. Therefore, traveling by train does not emit any air pollution at all.
