Actor Ryan O’Neal has died at the age of 82. His son Patrick announced this on Instagram.
The American has starred in numerous films and series. He made his breakthrough in the 1960s as Rodney Harrington in the soap opera Peyton Palace. That series, in which O’Neal appeared in more than 500 episodes, was broadcast in the Netherlands by Avro. In the film A Bridge Too Far, about the Battle of Arnhem in World War II, he played General James Gavin.
He was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the 1970 film Love Story. Among the younger audience, O’Neal will be best known for the television series Bones, where he played the role of the protagonist’s father.
In 2001, O’Neal was diagnosed with a form of leukemia. Ten years ago he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
On Instagram, his son wrote that his father “passed away peacefully today, with his loving team by his side, who supported him and loved him as he would love us.”
