In the night from Wednesday to Thursday, the fourth debate was held in the United States between Republicans who hope to become presidential candidates. The big absentee was once again former President Donald Trump. Why doesn’t he participate in the debates?
Trump simply doesn’t think it’s necessary to attend the debates. “People already know who I am and how successful my presidency was,” he wrote on social media.
The former president is far ahead of the other candidates in the polls. “Why should I let myself be questioned by people who are so low in the polls?” Trump said. He therefore calls the debates a “waste of time”.
Trump also believes that he is being treated “not fairly” in joint debates. He prefers occasions where he is allowed to do his thing undisturbed, such as one-on-one interviews and speeches in front of large crowds.
