Erik ten Hag has achieved a welcome victory over Chelsea with Manchester United. Two goals from Scott McTominay helped United win 2-1 at home. Virgil van Dijk was important for Liverpool with a goal, while Manchester City lost.
After a defeat against Newcastle United and a costly draw against Galatasaray in the Champions League, Ten Hag was in a crisis mood for the match against Chelsea, which is also having a disappointing season.
The evening started poorly for United. Bruno Fernandes missed from 11 meters after VAR awarded a penalty for a tackle on former Ajax player Antony. Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez was able to easily turn around Fernandes’ weak effort.
After twenty minutes United still made it 1-0. McTominay scored well on the rebound. United could not enjoy the lead for long. On the stroke of half-time, Cole Palmer scored the undeserved equalizer at Old Trafford.
United still took the win thanks to McTominay. The Scot, who has already scored important goals this season, headed in a cross from Alejandro Garnacho. As a result, the number six of the Premier League joins the sub-top.

Van Dijk takes leading role at Liverpool
Van Dijk played a leading role with a goal in Liverpool’s 0-2 win over bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United. The Dutch captain was accurate at Bramall Lane in the 37th minute. He shot in a corner kick from Trent Alexander-Arnold flawlessly. It was his first competitive goal of the season.
In the final minute, Dominik Szoboszlai put an end to all uncertainty, meaning Liverpool remains in the wake of leaders Arsenal. ‘The Reds’ have two points less than the Londoners, who won 4-3 against Fulham on Tuesday evening. At Liverpool, Cody Gakpo had a starting place and Ryan Gravenberch came on four minutes before the end.
Liverpool also finished three points ahead of rival Manchester City. The reigning national champions surprisingly lost to revelation Aston Villa: 1-0. Leon Bailey was the celebrated man for the home team. He scored the winning goal fifteen minutes before the end.
Due to the defeat, Manchester City has to give up third place in the Premier League to Aston Villa. The top match between Arsenal and Aston Villa is scheduled for Saturday.
