The trial has been called Sky ECC because of the technology its members used to communicate
A mega-trial in Belgium against a huge criminal network whose main business was drug trafficking to Europe from South America and Morocco, has been postponed as a result of delaying tactics by defense lawyers.
The opening of the procedure, which should have started on October 6, is scheduled for December 18, according to the Brussels Criminal Court.
There are 129 defendants, about 40 of whom are detained for participation in a criminal organization, drug and weapons trafficking, attempted extortion, arbitrary detention and illegal imprisonment.
The Sky ECC case is named after the encrypted messaging system used by criminals and discovered by Belgian police in 2021.
