Asuncion, Dec 2 (EFE).- Uruguayan goalkeeper Martin Silva was the protagonist this Saturday of the triumph that gave the Paraguay Cup to Libertad, which in 2023 won the Apertura, Clausura and the Super Cup of Guarani football.
Silva excelled in a penalty shootout that Libertad won 4-1 against Sportivo Trinidense by saving shots from Pedro Arce and Sergio Mendoza.
The Gumarelo club thus won its third title of the year, after finishing tied 1-1 with Trinidense in the match played this Saturday at the Parque del Guairá stadium, in the city of Villarrica.
In regulation time, Argentine Alexander Barboza put Libertad ahead, but Paraguayan Álex Álvarez equalized in agony.
Libertad won automatically with the Super Cup, for which the winner of the Paraguay Cup and the champion of the first division compete.
On Tuesday, at the close of the Paraguayan championship, Libertad won the Clausura trophy in its stadium with which it secured its place in the Copa Libertadores.
Gumarelo coach Ariel Galeano was able to reap the fruits of the work of Argentine Daniel Garnero since 2020, who took over the leadership of the Paraguayan national team last September.
