Hoffenheim lost in the Bundesliga on Saturday despite a goal from Wout Weghorst. The Dutch international’s club lost 2-1 to Borussia Mönchengladbach, while Xavi Simons with RB Leipzig was too strong for FC Heidenheim (2-1).
It was already the fourth goal for Weghorst in his last five league games for Hoffenheim. In the sixtieth minute of the match at Borussia Park, he headed in a cross from Umut Tohumcu to make the score 1-1.
The Frenchman Alassane Pléa had made it 1-0 for Mönchengladbach two minutes earlier from the penalty spot. In the eightieth minute, Nathan N’Goumou made it 2-1, leaving Hoffenheim with no points in the match.
At RB Leipzig against FC Heidenheim, Simons turned out to be fit enough to start. The Dutch international was injured in the Champions League match against Manchester City on Tuesday, but the injury turned out not to be too bad.
Against Heidenheim, Simons was substituted after 78 minutes, when the 2-1 final score was already on the scoreboard. Former Vitesse player Loïs Openda took advantage of a penalty in the 29th minute, fifteen minutes later Yussuf Poulsen scored for Leipzig’s 2-0. In the extra time of the first half, Benedikt Gimber put the 2-1 final score on the scoreboard in the Red Bull Arena on behalf of the away club.
