Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag refuses to blame André Onana for the 3-3 draw against Galatasaray in the Champions League. The goalkeeper made a glaring mistake when conceding two goals.
Onana twice misjudged a free kick from his former Ajax teammate Hakim Ziyech. The goalkeeper looked particularly bad at the 2-3. The ball simply slipped through the fingers of the Cameroonian, who could not prevent the 3-3.
Thus, Onana was again guilty of losing points to Manchester United, but manager Ten Hag did not attack him in front of the camera. “It’s not about the individual,” he said afterwards. “Individual mistakes can make the difference and you have to take responsibility for that, but it’s always about the team.”
According to Ten Hag, United should have taken a smarter approach after the 0-2 lead. “We should have managed the game better and defended the free kicks better. I know Hakim. He is brilliant.”
The 3-3 draw seems to allow United to forget about the next round in the Champions League, but Ten Hag was not concerned with that. “We have to learn from this, because we give away too many goals. It is unnecessary. I am convinced that this team is experienced and good enough to do this better.”

Ziyech: ‘Will be match of the year’
Ziyech was named man of the match with his two goals. He kept his feet on the ground. “This was an important point,” he said afterwards. “My teammates and I are doing our best to reach the highest.”
Galatasaray can qualify for the eighth finals of the Champions League for the first time in ten years. This requires a win against FC Copenhagen in two weeks, which is currently in second place in group A.
“It will be the match of the year,” says Ziyech. “Today’s match was already important, but the match against Copenhagen will be even more important. We have it in our own hands. If we do what we have to do, we will qualify for the next round.”
