After making history in Lima 2019, ‘Team Perú’ continued on the same path in Santiago 2023, starring in an outstanding participation, which was reflected with several podiums, and which will now be rewarded in the best way. The country won a total of 66 medals in the recent Pan American and Parapan American Games. The successful protagonists of the national delegation will receive an important financial prize.

The Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) guaranteed that it will fulfill its promise to deliver a significant prize to all the medalists who appeared in the last edition of the Games held in the capital of Chile. Furthermore, the monetary amount that each athlete will receive will depend on the color of the medal they achieved in their respective competition.
“In the Pan American and Parapan American Games, the economic incentive for medals obtained is 80 thousand soles for the gold medal, 60 thousand for the silver medal and 30 thousand for the bronze medal,” highlighted the president of the IPD, Guido Flores Marchan.

The Peruvian athletes and para-athletes who reached the first places in their disciplines were part of the Heading to Santiago 2023 Program, which had the purpose of financing their preparation prior to the important continental event. In this context, several benefited from this project and have now given a successful response in the sporting event in Chile.
“The Peruvian State, through the IPD, allocated 4 million 970 thousand soles so that the prioritized athletes and para-athletes who were part of the Heading to Santiago 2023 Program would have an extra financial subsidy for their preparation and can arrive at the event in the best conditions. ”, highlighted Flores Marchan.

According to the specific rewards for each medal, the accumulated amount that the IPD will distribute to the Peruvian medalists exceeds three million soles. ‘Team Peru’ won 32 medals in the Pan American Games and 34 in the Parapan American Games.

The financial prize will be for the 66 medals in total that were counted in the medal table. Between the Pan American and Parapan American Games, Peru won 16 gold medals (equivalent to 1,280,000 soles incentive), 15 silver (900,000 soles) and 35 bronze (1,050,000 soles). In total, the IPD will distribute 3,230,000 soles among all athletes.
The figure exceeds the prize awarded in Lima 2019 by almost one million. After the event that the country hosted, this governing institution distributed two million 720 thousand soles to the winners of the 51 medals of the aforementioned edition of the event.

Now Peruvian athletes, motivated by this important incentive, will seek to extend their successes in the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Some have obtained a place in the most important multi-sport event in the world, so the IPD plans to finance the preparation of the national representatives.
“The next objective of our athletes will be to prepare for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, for which the IPD is managing the creation of a support program that helps them arrive in the best conditions to the most important multi-sport event in the world” , assured the head of the IPD.
