Erik ten Hag enjoyed Alejandro Garnacho’s sublime bicycle kick against Everton on Sunday. The Dutch trainer tempers expectations around the nineteen-year-old Argentinian attacker.
Garnacho laid the foundation for United’s 0-3 win with his trick in the third minute. Comparisons were immediately made with Cristiano Ronaldo – Garnacho cheered in the same way the Portuguese always does – and Wayne Rooney, who once scored a similar goal for United.
“But you shouldn’t compare him with those players,” said Ten Hag, who was suspended against Everton. “Everyone has their own identity. Garnacho still has to show a lot to follow the same path. Although with his potential he is capable of great things.”
“It’s not the first time he’s shown something like this. We see glimpses every now and then, but if you want to be a player like Rooney or Ronaldo, you have to score 20 or 25 goals in the Premier League.”
Ten Hag was lyrical about the goal. “It was a fantastic goal. The season is still long, but perhaps this was already the goal of the year. Not just the bicycle kick, but everything together. Although the finish was of course incredible.”
Manchester United is slowly but surely working its way up in the Premier League. ‘The Red Devils’ won for the third time in a row and are now sixth, six points behind leader Arsenal.
