Douwe Bob is undergoing treatment to overcome his alcohol addiction. The thirty-year-old singer announced this to his followers on Instagram on Sunday.
“Many things are going well at the moment, one thing is going completely wrong,” writes Douwe Bob. “I have a serious alcohol problem for which I am now going to seek treatment.”
The singer, father of three children, says that alcohol addiction “destroys everything” and causes too many problems for those around him. “I’ll be away for a while, if all goes well I’ll be back next year.”
It is not clear whether Douwe Bob has been admitted to a clinic or is being treated for his addiction in some other way.
Douwe Bob made his breakthrough in 2012 at the age of nineteen when he won the program The best singer-songwriter in the Netherlands. In 2016, the Amsterdammer participated on behalf of the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm, Sweden. With the song Slow down he finished eleventh in the final.
This year Douwe Bob scored another hit with the song This World Is Our Home. Last season he was one of the participants of the Best Singers program.
