Short tracker Sjinkie Knegt has also been passed over for the World Cup competitions in Beijing and Seoul next month. Six other riders are given preference by the selection committee.
The 34-year-old Knegt also did not receive an invitation to the two World Cup competitions in the Canadian city of Montreal earlier this season. The four-time world champion was then considered not good enough.
In Montreal, only Jens van ‘t Wout and Friso Emons reached the finals. For the selection committee, which consists of former short track athlete Victor van den Hoff, technical director Remy de Wit and short track discipline manager Wilf O’Reilly, this is no reason to change the selection.
Knegt had a disappointing start to the season. De Fries could not make any progress at the National Championships in Leeuwarden and the Dutch Open, an invitational tournament in Heerenveen. National coach Niels Kerstholt said that Knegt lacks substance.
Knegt had been less concerned with shot track in the months before. He was busy renovating his house and participated in the TV program The Biohack Project. Knegt acknowledged that he had to work more on his endurance on the ice.

Schulting is still missing
Suzanne Schulting is missing for the women for the competitions in Beijing (December 8-10) and Seoul (December 15-17). The Frisian hopes to make her return during the European Championships in Gdansk, Poland (January 12-14), after taking a break due to physical exhaustion.
At the beginning of this month, Schulting also suffered a 15 centimeter cut on her back in a fall during training. She had to go to the hospital by ambulance. She is now back in training, but she is not riding in Asia.
Xandra Velzeboer, Selma Poutsma and Yara van Kerkhof, among others, do so. It will be a special reunion for them in Beijing. In February 2022, they won gold in the relay with Schulting. Schulting became Olympic champion in the 1,000 meters, won silver in the 500 meters and bronze in the 1,500 meters.
