Halina Reijn has managed to attract several big names for her third feature film. Baby Girl will be the second title that the Dutch make in collaboration with the American A24, and none other than Nicole Kidman and Antonio Banderas have been confirmed as the leading actors.
Affair in the workplace
Baby Girl will be an erotic thriller in which a forty-year-old career woman, who is CEO of a large company, has an affair with a twenty-one-year-old intern. Big Little Lies star Nicole Kidman will take on the lead role, and will be joined by Harris Dickinson (of Triangle of Sadness (2022)) as an opponent.
Besides Kidman and Dickinson, the names of Antonio Banderas (official competition (2021)), Jean Reno (The Da Vinci Code (2006)) and the recently broken through Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me (2022)) confirmed. For this project, Reijn is once again joining forces with A24, which previously helped the actress and filmmaker Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022). Production company Man Up, which was started a few years ago by Reijn and Game of Thrones star Carice van Houten, also appears to be a constant factor.
The latter is worth an extra mention because Reijn and Van Houten announced on Instagram this week that they are each going their own (business) path. In 2019, Van Houten played the leading role in Reijn’s feature debut, produced by Man Up Instinct (2019).
Baby Girl will receive a Dutch cinema release, but when exactly is not yet known. Filming starts next month.
