Asunción, Nov 12 (EFE).- The Libertad club put the finishing touch to its 2023 campaign this Sunday, by being crowned early champion of the Clausura Tournament of Paraguay after beating Sportivo Luqueño 1-0 and adding this title to the Apertura championship which he conquered last June.
A free kick taken by midfielder Iván Ramírez gave, in the 55th minute, the victory to the Gumarelo team, which until last September was under the direction of the current Paraguay coach, the Argentine Daniel Garnero.
Garnero was replaced by Paraguayan Ariel Galeano.
With this result, the Repollero team became two-time champions of Guaraní football this year, a feat they had already achieved in 2008 and 2014.
However, Libertad, who reached 45 points with this Sunday’s victory, will have to wait until the last date, when they will play at home against Tacuary, to lift the Clausura cup.
The celebration was felt by the Libertad fans at the Feliciano Cáceres stadium, in the city of Luque, after Ramírez’s cross shot that lodged in the left side of the net guarded by Uruguayan Gonzalo Falcón.
The young goalkeeper later prevented a ball that one of his teammates cleared in the area from advancing towards his own goal.
And while Libertad got its 24th star, Cerro Porteño played simultaneously with Tacuary, who ended up 1-1 on their visit to the General Pablo Rojas stadium in Asunción, also known as “La Nueva Olla.”
For Ciclón de Barrio Obrero, Damián Bobadilla scored an early goal in the 1st minute, while Walter Clar scored parity four minutes later.
Thus, the Azulgrana club was in second place in the Paraguayan soccer table, with 36 points, followed by Nacional, which has accumulated 29 points.
In the other commitments of the 20-match day on Saturday, Sportivo Ameliano beat Olimpia 1-0 and General Caballero JLM drew 0-0 with Guaireña.
Clashes between Resistencia SC and Guaraní are expected for Monday, as well as between Trinidense and Nacional.
