The Netherlands has more and more workers with burnout complaints. Last year there were 1.6 million, compared to 1.3 million the year before.
This does not mean that those 1.6 million people were all at home last year. It may also concern complaints that can eventually lead to burnout. About 3 percent say they are actually overstressed or have a work-related burnout, reports knowledge institute TNO.
In 2021, employees spent a total of eleven million days at home due to work stress. This cost employers an estimated 3.3 billion euros. It is not clear how high the costs were last year.
According to TNO, stress at work often arises when an employee is not given the time and opportunities to meet the requirements of the job. Another cause of work stress is conflict at work. More than a quarter of workers had a conflict at least once last year.
The figures emerge from an ongoing TNO survey among approximately 60,000 employees.
It became clear earlier that burnout is also a major problem among young people. Almost a quarter of young men have these types of complaints. Among young women it is even almost 30 percent.
