In 2022, a significant decrease in the country’s temperature was reported with a national average of 13 degrees Celsius, as indicated in the “Annual Report on Climate Evolution in Chile” released by the Meteorological Directorate.
It was even the year with the lowest national average minimum temperature – known as TN – in a decade. The above occurs despite the fact that the global level was the sixth warmest year in more than 40 years, since 1980.

The temperature was not the only thing that dropped in 2022, but also the rains. Last year there was a 22% rainfall deficit in the country.
Despite the lack of rain, the drought decreased during the previous year, largely thanks to the drop in temperature, however, the country still has red flags in the matter.

In 2022, an average temperature of 15.97 degrees Celsius was reported in Santiago, according to the same report from the Chilean Meteorological Directorate.
Although this meant a reduction in the trend of increasing temperatures each year, they are still worrying figures, reaching up to four heat waves only in the months of November and December 2022, being one of the cities with the most recorded cases.
The country’s capital registered a rainfall deficit much higher than the national average, 51%. Even last year it is in the top 15 of the driest years in the history of Santiago.
