This is Faustino Pérez Luna, who pleaded guilty on May 23 for possession with intent to distribute 88.5 kilograms of cocaine, which was considered a serious crime given the large amount of narcotics he was transporting.
Due to the above, Texas District Judge Randy Crane ordered Luna to serve 70 months in federal prison, which translates to five years and 10 months. According to official reports, the seized drugs had an estimated value on the black market of USD 1.5 million.

The events for which Faustino was arrested occurred on November 13, 2022. On that occasion, the Mexican was driving a tractor-trailer loaded with more than 80 kilos of cocaine. “The drugs were the priority cargo of a well-known drug trafficking organization,” said the Department of Justice.

However, the name of the cartel for which Faustino worked was not mentioned. The truth is that this subject approached the Falfurrias (Texas) checkpoint, with the supposed intention of delivering a shipment of agricultural products.
During these actions, a K-9 canine pair detected that Luna was transporting narcotics inside the unit, so the US authorities proceeded to carry out an inspection. This is how they discovered the cocaine that was hidden among the boxes of agricultural products in the tractor trailer.
“Between March 2022 and November 13, 2022, law enforcement detained several additional individuals in connection with this drug trafficking organization,” a statement said. Although the identities of the detainees were not released, it was stated that they operated in the lower part of the Rio Grande Valley, where they also trafficked weapons and money.

After a series of investigations, it was determined that the seized cocaine had as its final destination the city of Atlanta, Georgia, where it was presumed to be distributed.
On May 23, District Judge Randy Crane indicated that the sentence against Luna would be handed down on August 10, but it was finally delayed for three more months. At the time, it was reported that Faustino faced anything from a life sentence in federal prison to a possible maximum fine of USD 10 million.
Due to the presence of organized crime on the border between the US and Mexico, the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, announced the deployment of elements of the Texas Department of Public Safety in the operational control of Frontón Island, considered one of the areas most dangerous in the region.
“Texas continues to hold the line against Biden’s border crisis and protect our nation from cartels,” Abbott announced on November 9 through a statement shared on social networks.
