The province of Overijssel has saved the liberation festival in Zwolle with a financial contribution. The organization will receive a one-off 250,000 euros next year, so that the festival can take place on May 5.
The Overijssel liberation festival suffered tons of losses this year. Due to the bad weather, the number of visitors was disappointing and catering income was much lower than normal.
To ensure that the upcoming edition in Park de Wezenlanden can continue and remain free, the organization had asked for extra money. The provincial factions of CDA, ChristenUnie and SP proposed giving the liberation festival an incidental contribution of 250,000 euros.
Although the BBB was the largest group (seventeen seats) to vote against, the proposal received a narrow majority: 25 against 22. The amount comes from the so-called free space of the general reserves of the province.
The festival in Overijssel is one of the fourteen liberation festivals organized in collaboration with the National Committee 4 and 5 May.
