Universitario de Deportes won League 1 after beating its classic rival in the final, Alianza Lima. The team led by Aldo Corzo got all the ‘creams’ to celebrate, including members of showbiz, other athletes and even large corporations, such as Google, which celebrated the victory with a fun animation on its search engine.

After ten years, the team led by Jorge Fossati reconquered the pinnacle of football in Peru with a final result of 2-0 at the Matute stadium. The ‘merengue’ victory was a trend on social networks and the internet giant was no stranger to the hubbub of the victory and added to the joy of the fans.

Google Peru even congratulated the cream squad for its championship: “Congratulations, University, for a new title! Cream people, have you seen the surprise in the Google Search”, he wrote on his Twitter account.
The team, led by Jorge Fossati, responded to the well-known search engine: “Thank you very much, Google Peru, for this tribute to the biggest club in Peru. #ConLaUHastaElFinal #GrandeThereUnaUnoSolo.”
Universitario won the League 1 title, winning 2-0 over Alianza Lima in the second leg final of the Peruvian championship play-offs, held on Wednesday, November 8. The ‘merengue’ team triumphed with a 3-1 aggregate over the ‘blue and white’, after the previous draw at the Monumental de Ate last Saturday, November 4.

Edison Flores opened the scoring at minute 3 and Horacio Calcaterra sealed the championship at 82 minutes of the match, giving the ‘U’ its first national crown in ten years and taking away from Alianza Lima the long-awaited three-time championship.

Despite the victory at the Alejandro Villanueva stadium, the ‘cream’ team’s celebration was overshadowed when the stadium lights went out immediately after the final whistle.
The blackout of the lights in Matute after the end of the match caused controversy and attracted international attention and local justice authorities, who announced an investigation to find responsibilities.

Faced with this scenario, Héctor Ordóñez, representative of the Victorian club, explained to the media the reasons for the blackout that occurred after the ‘cream’ team’s victory. He clarified that the measure was not adopted by the board of Alianza Lima, but by the corresponding official entities.
Furthermore, Ordóñez confirmed that there was a prior understanding with the competent entities: “As I mentioned, once we receive the minutes, the club will issue an official statement. The responsibility for taking measures such as suspending the awards ceremony or turning off the lights does not fall on us.”
In this regard, the Public Ministry announced that it appointed a prosecutor’s team to investigate the details that led to the power outage at the La Victoria sports complex. The Crime Prevention Prosecutor’s Office, present at the event, has transferred the case to the Criminal Prosecutor’s Office on Duty to investigate the potential risk of the people present.
In addition, it will be investigated whether there was a commission of public order crimes against citizens and members of the National Police of Peru, following the reported altercations between fans and the police around the stadium.
