A candidate MP from the BoerBurgerBeweging is withdrawing because it has emerged that during the corona crisis he has called numerous politicians, among other things, “child abuser”, “pharma whore”, “NSB member”, “war criminal” and “Nazi bitch” on then Twitter.
Jasper Rekers is in thirteenth place on the BBB candidate list, but will not take his seat if he is elected. For two years he ran an anonymous X account with which he continuously insulted public figures and made Nazi comparisons. He regularly called for tribunals and uprisings.
After being confronted with an investigation by the ANP news agency into his online past, Rekers initially denied it. After the BBB was informed, he relented. He has apologized to the party.
BBB says it was not aware of the insults and is “very shocked” by the content of the messages. The party of party leader Caroline van der Plas is distancing itself from it.
Rekers has informed BBB that the messages come from a “dark period in his life”. “I was seriously concerned about developments in society and that had an effect on my state of mind,” he said in a response. He adds that he only recognizes some of the expressions presented to him. If his comments have hurt people, he says he is “deeply sorry.”
The corona crisis “has also made major dents in many lives,” BBB says. The fact that it was not informed by 35-year-old Rekers, an entrepreneur from Enschede and a teacher at Saxion University of Applied Sciences, is particularly important to the party.
Rutte, De Jonge, D66 and Van Ranst had to pay the price
The ANP found nine hundred X-messages over a period of two years. During the corona pandemic, Rekers changed the name of his personal account to Verzet op Links. Through that account, the arrows were mainly aimed at corona policy and comparisons were made with Nazi Germany.
From his account, Rekers called the then Minister of Health Hugo de Jonge, among other things, a “child molester” and “PABO quack”. He wondered whether the CDA minister had already booked a “one-way ticket to Nuremberg” to the Nazi tribunal.
After Prime Minister Mark Rutte wished the new German Chancellor Olaf Scholz good luck, De Rekers called him an “NSB member”. He further compared the Flemish virologist Marc Van Ranst with Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels and murderer Marc Dutroux.
D66 in particular had to pay the price for the candidate MP. He spoke of a “Nazi party” and called the party congress a “fascist ball”. Rob Jetten, now party leader, went “from niece to Nazi bitch”, according to Rekers. Party chairman Jan Paternotte was compared to Goebbels. D66 Minister Ernst Kuipers (Public Health) was called a “pimp”, “child abuser” and “war criminal” in one message.
With his thirteenth position on the BBB list, Rekers had a good chance of entering Parliament, according to the polls.
