The police have been conducting an intensive search for Bretly Dorder since last weekend. The man is suspected of involvement in the death of a Rotterdam resident and a stabbing. We know this now.
Dorder (24) is suspected of shooting one man to death and stabbing another. The suspect is said to have shot Rotterdam psychiatrist Jean van Griensven and set fire to his home on October 13. Van Griensven died from his injuries.
Last Saturday, Dorder was allegedly involved in a stabbing incident in Zutphen. The stabbing victim was not seriously injured.
A heavily armed police unit raided a home in Doetinchem on Saturday evening. According to De Telegraaf, this was with a relative of Dorder. Local residents were also spoken to. In the end it didn’t yield anything.

Last Sunday, German police reported that Dorder was being searched for in the North Rhine-Westphalia region after a tip. A truck driver allegedly saw the suspect walking on the street. Helicopters, among other things, were used. The search was scaled down on Monday because Dorder was not spotted, the AD reports. He would also have no contacts there.
The police in Rotterdam, who are in charge of the case, warned on Sunday that Dorder often travels by train. The police therefore asked travelers to look out for the man. This resulted in many questions from readers on our response platform NUjij: is that really that smart? Dorder may also read these messages and would therefore avoid the train. And with it the many cameras at all stations.
The police say that they can really use the attention of citizens in this case. “It is not without reason that we call on the help of the citizens. The more people look out for him, the better. If the whole country is watching, all those eyes work much better for us than cameras,” a police spokesperson explains to NU .NL. “We continue to emphasize that you should not approach the suspect yourself. He is a firearm hazard.”
Readers on NUjij also responded to the term ‘firearms dangerous’. When is someone considered a firearms dangerous person? The spokesperson: “We say this when we know that a suspect is suspected or likely to be carrying a firearm.”
Users of certain relationship apps have also been warned by the police not to contact Dorder. The Bullchat app is explicitly mentioned, on which homosexual men in particular are active. The police spokesperson confirms to NU.nl that Dorder and psychiatrist Van Griensven made contact there.

NU.nl almost never reports the full name and photo of suspects due to the privacy interests of the person in question. We may deviate from this after consultation between the editor-in-chief, the front page compiler and the editors involved.
An assessment is then made as to whether the privacy interests outweigh the risk that the suspect will cause (more) victims. This consultation has also taken place in this case. The outcome is that we show the full name and photo of the suspect in our reporting.
