A pilot has been charged with 83 attempted murders in the United States. He flew as a passenger in the cockpit of an airplane on Sunday and tried to switch off the engines during the flight.
There were 83 people on the plane. These people could have been victims of a crash if the pilot’s action had been successful. That is why the pilot has been charged with 83 counts of attempted murder.
The incident took place on a plane en route from Everett, Washington state, to San Francisco, California, according to a statement from Alaska Airlines.
The man had “tried without success to disrupt the operation of the engines”. The airline said there was a “credible security threat”.
The pilot and co-pilot were able to prevent the incident so that the engines never shut down. The flight was safely diverted to Portland, Oregon. All passengers were able to continue flying on a later flight.
According to various media, the accused pilot is 44-year-old Joseph E., who was taken into custody at the airport. This pilot recently underwent a medical examination and was cleared to fly. Nothing is yet known about a motive.
