The Danish Prince Christian celebrated his eighteenth birthday in Copenhagen on Sunday. The party was attended by many representatives of other royal houses, such as Princess Amalia. At the gala in the evening he gave a speech to his guests.
In addition to Amalia, Princess Elisabeth of Belgium and Princess Alexandra of Norway were also in the audience at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen.
In his speech, Christian thanked his parents, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary for their support, and thanked his grandmother Queen Margrethe for her “kind words and the beautiful party” she had organized.
The eighteen-year-old prince further thanked the many peers present who had come to the party. “It feels really good to be surrounded by so many peers,” he said.
‘Too many people have high expectations’
Christian also discussed the “high expectations” placed on him and his contemporaries. “Too many people feel like they can’t live life the way they want to. But in reality, we can only be who we are. You may not be the funniest or the smartest in the class, but you are something else .We don’t have to be the best to earn a spot.”
Frederik and Mary’s eldest son also looked forward to the future and everything that will bring him. “I can’t deliver perfection, because what is perfection anyway, but I can promise dedication,” Christian said.
“I will give everything I have and learn everything I can. I have to find my way, even if it leads to a familiar place. I have roots in many places in the world and I love to travel. But home will always be there Because I love my country.”
Princess Amalia wore historical jewelry
Princess Amalia wore a special historical tiara for the first time at the party. It was a diadem whose stones served as a necklace or were part of a necklace forty years ago. Amalia’s dress was a design by Essentiel Antwerp.
The princess also wore blue shoes by Manolo Blahnik and has the so-called trellis necklace, also known as the honeycomb necklace, around her neck. This jewel was ordered by Queen Emma around 1901 for her daughter Wilhelmina, who married Prince Hendrik on February 7 of that year.
