Arantxa Rus was eliminated on Wednesday in the second round of the WTA tournament in Seoul, South Korea. The seventh-seeded Dutch had to retire injured in the decisive third set against the American Claire Liu.
The 32-year-old Russian was 3-0 behind in the decisive third set. The world number 51 had few problems in the first set with Liu (WTA-98), nine years his junior.
The second set went convincingly to the American. Rus then did not feel fit enough to finish the match: 6-1, 3-6 and 0-3.
With her victory in the first round, Rus ended a bad series of six defeats in a row. In recent weeks she was immediately eliminated from the US Open and in Cincinnati, Guadalajara, Ningbo and Beijing.
Rus was the last Dutch participant in the singles of the hard court tournament in Seoul. Arianne Hartono already failed in the first round.
