The Marengo trial cannot continue with the current court, Ridouan Taghi’s lawyers believe. They have criticized the court because they no longer have confidence in the current judges
The judges have rejected a request for command Sil. A to be heard as a witness. According to Sjoerd van Berge Henegouwen, one of Taghi’s lawyers, the court has “created the appearance of bias”.
Other judges must now consider the request for recusal and decide whether or not to appoint new judges. It is not yet clear when that will happen.
Former commando Sil A. previously stated that he was approached by secret services in 2019 with the question whether he could ‘neutralize’ Taghi as a fugitive. That’s a soothing term for shooting. It would also be an option to secretly remove the alleged top criminal Taghi from Dubai by commandos.
A. is currently suspected in a drug case.
The Marengo process has been going on for years. The judges have also been challenged several times, all times in vain.
Today the trial resumed, a cousin of Ridouan Taghi was tried for complicity in the murder of lawyer Derk Wiersum.
A verdict in the extensive liquidation process against Ridouan Taghi and sixteen co-suspects is still more than five months away. The scheduled sentencing date is February 27. The court announced this at the end of September.
