For the occasion, more than 14,000 people sent him wishes via his foundation, the Carter Center, which created a mosaic in his likeness bringing together the messages sent by his admirers.
Despite being physically limited due to his illness, Jimmy Carter would be well aware of the love he has received since he announced he was receiving palliative care, according to what his son, Jason Carter, tells the American media CNN.
The one who was President of the United States from 1977 to 1981 would also stay well informed of the news and the latest results of his favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves.
Jason Carter says the sympathies expressed by the public over the past few months have helped him personally come to terms with the fact that his father is in his final moments.
“I wasn’t prepared to experience such daily grief,” explains Jason Carter. Doing it publicly has been wonderful because of the support we receive.”
He adds that his parents are “at home, in love, and they know they are.”
“You can’t get much more from life than what they’ve been given, and they know it,” he adds. My parents are at peace.”
The Carter family will gather on Sunday to mark this anniversary privately.
