Iconic action heroine Lara Croft is getting an animated series. Netflix has unveiled the first images of Tomb Raider (2024), a flashy new presentation of the well-known character.
We don’t know too much about the new Tomb Raider yet, except that this series will also highlight Croft’s rise as a ‘hi-tech treasure hunter’. The Legend of Lara Croft was announced in 2021, so it has been in the works for quite a while. During the Drop 01 livestream event, a Netflix initiative that focuses entirely on animation, the first images were finally presented:
The animated series would follow the line started by the so-called Survivor game trilogy from Crystal Dynamics: Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015) and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018). It is not news that Lara will also make tombs unsafe in this series, but it also seems that she will have to save the world from a supernatural evil. The character is voiced by Marvel star Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter).
The Tomb Raider universe is in a state of flux. After the films with Angelina Jolie, there was Tomb Raider in 2018, and in addition to the now expected animated series, a live-action series and then a film are currently planned. Prime Video has secured Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge for the series.
Only next year?
It remains to be seen exactly when Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft will be available to stream on Netflix. The streaming service says it’s coming soon, but it’s likely sometime in 2024. So put the series in your watchlist to stay informed about a release date.
