Juan Ramos López, head of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Competition Control (FECOC), of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), considered the right-hand man of prosecutor Alejandro Gertz Manero, died on the afternoon of this Friday, September 22.

In a brief statement, the FGR regretted the death of the official of the autonomous body as a result of kidney surgery, carried out in a hospital in the south of Mexico City.
“This institution deeply regrets the death of our colleague and friend, Juan Ramos López, as a result of kidney surgery,” the statement reads.
Juan Ramos López had a degree in Law from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

The FGR official was a doctoral student in Law from that same university with the thesis “The crimes of injuries and homicide in personal contact sports.”
Ramos López was technical secretary of the Navy Commission in the LXI Legislature of the Chamber of Deputies; Undersecretary of Public Security and General Coordinator of Legal Affairs at the Federal Public Security Secretariat; as well as legal director at the Secretariat of Public Security of Mexico City.

Gertz Manero’s right-hand man served as general director of Supervision in the Coordination of Auxiliary Public Ministry Agents of the attorney of the then Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City.

Ramos López, who replaced prosecutor Gertz Manero during his disability after the surgery he underwent on his spine at the beginning of the year, was also general director of the General Inspectorate and Agent of the Public Ministry. He served as director of Law and general counsel of the Universidad de las Américas AC, in Mexico City, an institution where he also served as a professor teaching the subject “The Amparo Trial Procedure.”
He was also a speaker at various conferences at federal agencies and in the country’s capital, as well as at educational and public assistance institutions.
According to the FGR, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Competence Control “is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of crimes provided for in special laws, which are not the responsibility of another administrative unit of the Institution; Likewise, it is in charge of resolving jurisdictional disputes between the Specialized Prosecutor’s Offices.”
During his career in the Public Ministry of the Federation, Ramos López was in charge of investigating the death of Federico Gertz Manero, brother of the head of the FGR.
The case became very relevant after audios were leaked in which Gertz Manero and the now deceased were heard talking about Alejandra Cuevas Morán, accused of the death of Federico Gertz, and who remained in the Santa Martha Acatitla prison.
