The KNVB has appointed Serdar Gözübüyük as referee for Sunday’s De Klassieker between Feyenoord and Ajax. It will be the third time that he officiates a match between the two rivals.
Gözübüyük was also in charge of De Klassieker last season. Then he led the game in De Kuip (1-1). In 2019, the referee refereed a match between Ajax and Feyenoord for the first time. The Amsterdam team then won 4-0 at home.
In Sunday’s match (kick-off at 2:30 PM), Gözübüyuk will receive assistance from Pol van Boekel, who sits behind the screen as VAR in Zeist. He receives support along the line from Erwin Zeinstra and Johan Balder.
For Gözübüyük, the Classic is not his first job this week. He first travels to Portugal with his arbitration team for the Champions League match between SC Braga and Napoli. That match starts on Wednesday at 9 p.m.
There is also another match on the program for Ajax and Feyenoord. Feyenoord returns to the Champions League stage against Celtic on Tuesday in De Kuip. Two days later, Ajax will play in front of its own crowd against Olympique Marseille in the Europa League.
