Jumbo Visma is saddened by the serious car accident of Belgian rider Nathan van Hooydonck on Tuesday in Kalmthout. Sports director Grischa Niermann says everyone in the Dutch team is in shock.
“Our riders are very affected by the news about Nathan Van Hooydonck,” says Niermann at Sporza. The German is currently participating in the Vuelta a España with a delegation from Jumbo-Visma.
“This is news that you obviously never want to hear. We hope that he will get better as soon as possible.”
Van Hooydonck was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition on Tuesday morning after he had an accident with his car. The 27-year-old Belgian became unwell in the car and then came into contact with five other vehicles. The emergency services had resuscitated Van Hooydonck.
