Described by experts as an “extreme phenomenon in terms of the quantity of water falling”, Storm Daniel had killed at least 27 people in recent days in Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria, before hitting the Libyan coast.
Daniel began striking eastern Libya on Sunday afternoon, the coastal towns of Jebel Akhdar (North-East) but also Benghazi, where a curfew has been decreed and schools closed. Then she headed east to devastate Derna.
According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (Ficr), “the number of missing is close to 10,000”.
