Refusal to comply is an offence, defined in the Highway Code (article L233-1): “The fact, for any driver, of omitting to obey a summons to stop issued by a civil servant or an agent responsible for noting violations and provided with the external and visible insignia of his quality. »
The refusal to comply is said to be “aggravated” (article L233-2) when the facts “have been committed in circumstances directly exposing others to a risk of death or injury likely to result in permanent dismemberment or infirmity”.
Refusing to comply exposes the offender to a two-year prison sentence and a fine of €15,000, penalties that can go up to three years in prison and a fine of €30,000 for aggravated refusals.
