In addition, the Spanish champion of the Women’s Soccer World Cup has denounced that she felt vulnerable and a victim of aggression. Her teammates have supported her by threatening to stop playing until the president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, leaves the organization.
The player of the national team Jennifer Hermoso denounces that the explanations of the head of Spanish Soccer are false and that at no time was the kiss on the mouth consented. The world champion has received the support of her colleagues who threaten to resign.
“I clarify that at no time did the conversation to which Mr. Luis Rubiales referred take place and that, neither much nor less, his kiss was consented. In the same way I want to reiterate as I already did at the time that this fact had not I liked it,” he added.
“The situation caused me a shock due to the context of celebration, and with the passage of time and after delving a little deeper into those first feelings, I feel the need to denounce this fact since I consider that no person, in any workplace, sports or social must be a victim of this type of non-consensual behavior. I felt vulnerable and the victim of aggression, an impulsive, macho, out of place act and without any kind of consent on my part, “he explained.
For the international soccer player, neither Rubiales nor the RFEF respected her after the kiss she received from the president, once the controversy began in Spain. “I just wasn’t respected.”
“I was asked to make a joint statement to reduce the pressure on the president, but at that time in my head I only had the idea of enjoying the historic milestone reached together with my teammates. For this reason, at all times I transferred to the RFEF and to their different interlocutors, as well as to the media and people I trust who would not make any type of individual or joint statement on this matter, since they understood that, if they did, it would take away even more prominence from such a special moment for my colleagues and for me,” he said.
“Despite my decision, I have to state that I have been under continuous pressure to come up with some statement that could justify the act of Mr. Luis Rubiales. Not only that, but, in different ways and through different people , the RFEF has pressured my environment (family, friends, colleagues, etc.) to give a testimony that had little or nothing to do with my feelings,” he added.
“It is not up to me to evaluate communication and integrity practices, but I am sure that as the World Champion National Team we do not deserve such a manipulative, hostile and controlling culture. These types of incidents join a long list of situations that The players have been denouncing in recent years, so this fact, in which I have been involved, is just the straw that breaks the camel’s back and what the whole world has been able to see, but attitudes like this have been part of the day by day of our team for years”.
The Higher Sports Council has gone to the Administrative Court of Sports to disqualify Rubiales.
“I believe that we are in a position for this to be the mee too of Spanish football and that this is a change and therefore the Government wants to warn about that. It wants to be very forceful when it comes to saying that there are things that cannot come back come to pass”, stressed Víctor Francos, president of the CSD.
The Madrid Prosecutor’s Office has processed several complaints against Luis Rubiales and has transferred the case to the National Court. Previously, FIFA had opened a file. The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation refused to resign this Friday despite mounting pressure. He assured that he will protect his name in court if necessary.
