The opinion of the deputy Mariana Zuvic on the accession of Argentina to the BRICS
Argentina’s entry into the alliance of BRICS countries -which will be implemented in January 2024- provoked the reaction of opposition leaders who question not only the moment chosen by a government that is withdrawing from power, but also the geopolitical decision to agree with countries like Russia, China and Iran.
The wave of critical voices began yesterday at the Council of the Americas with statements by the presidential candidate of Together for Change, Patricia Bullrich, who stated -before businessmen and executives from the United States- that under her government the decision adopted will be rolled back by Alberto Fernandez. She was joined by Javier Milei, the winner of the PASO, who, faithful to his frontal style, stated that he would not promote “a deal with communists.”
Former President Mauricio Macri adhered to the vision contrary to the understanding. “The President commits us in one of his weakest moments to be part of the BRICS while Russia invades the Ukraine and to join none other than Iran,” he said from Morocco, where he competes in a Bridge tournament.

The national deputy for CABA Mariana Zuvic joined the critical visions this Friday. She emphasized the political partnership that is intended to be forged with Iran, a country under investigation in Argentina for its role in the terrorist attacks on the Israeli Embassy and AMIA. “Finally, what they couldn’t with the memorandum, they achieve with the entry to the BRICS, this is by no means good news”, pointed out the representative of the Civic-ARI Coalition.
“BRICS is more than an economic alliance, it reveals a geopolitical positioning,” he added. This thought was supported by the “incorporation of dictators, terrorists and authoritarians” which, according to her “should be a warning sign for everyone.” And she warned: “Today, more than ever, the future of Argentina depends on us.”

The Cambiemos interbloc deputy also published a video to analyze the country’s entry into the BRICS. “It is a situation that threatens the interests of the Nation thanks to the inevitable Kirchnero-Massista motivations, which is the unconditional love of Kirchnerism for dictatorships.”
At the same time, he highlighted the “coherence” of the ruling party to associate itself with “the worst in the world system” as well as qualifying this geopolitical decision as “factional interests, made up of the ideological bias of Kirchnerism” which -according to the legislator- embodies them “[Sabino] Vaca Narvaja from his easy chair in China” and denounced that he “lobbies in favor of the Asian giant” about the Argentine ambassador in the eastern country.

“When the current government is about to leave power, it is not advisable to sign or adhere to any geopolitical platform. In the BRICS there are countries that militate against the West (Iran is responsible for the attacks) and also countries that are vital to our trade,” said national deputy Mario Raúl Negri, head of the radical bloc in the lower house.
He also spoke of “tyrannical regimes such as China, Iran and Saudi Arabia” and closed to advocate “for freedom and sovereignty, as values to consider when connecting with the world.”

Another of the voices that spoke out against it was the economist Diana Mondino, pre-candidate for National Deputy for the City of Buenos Aires within the La Libertad Avanza party, of Javier Milei. She said in an interview with TN that “our geopolitical alignment is the United States and Israel,” she emphasized who would be in charge of Foreign Relations if the libertarian candidate reaches the Presidency of the Nation.
Mondino said that this decision by the government of Alberto Fernández has “many edges, on the one hand they are very complex decisions that an administration that is already leaving should not be making.” In addition, he indicated that “there are very conflicting interests within the BRICS, what Russia or China needs is very different from what South Africa or India needs.”
Economist Diana Mondino does not agree that Argentina joins the BRICS
The economist also raised the question of what is the objective, why does Argentina join the BRICS? “To do more trade, to beg for more money, if it is for a new international economic order? Is it naive or crude where Argentina has to choose its geostrategic position as a country.”
“They are not inviting you to a party that is the most fun, you have to be very careful who is going to be at it, to trade with those countries you do not need to be part of the BRICS,” Mondino rounded off.
López Murphy’s opinion on the BRICS
For his part, the national deputy of Together for Change, Ricardo López Murphy, tweeted that “Iran continues to refuse to submit to justice for the terrorist attacks suffered by the Argentine people.” And he added about the BRICS leader: “Russia advances every day in the invasion of Ukraine, that is the BRICS bloc, I reject and repudiate any alliance with accomplices of terrorists and anti-rights nations.”
Federico Pinedo, former senator and provisional president of the National Senate, also raised his voice during the management of Mauricio Macri, who emphasized: “We cannot be political partners of Russia while it invades Ukraine and of Iran, while it does not submit to our Justice for the terrorist attacks”.
