There is no definitive statement on any outcome of the talks, but many observers say the meetings with the junta and Bazoum are positive signs.
“[La verdad es]the seizure of power by the defense and security forces, firmly supported by our courageous population, is part of a context of rejection of security models and bad governance made of injustice and corruption,” declared the General Abdurahamane Tiani, head of the Niger junta.
Brigadier General Tiani once again warned against any kind of intervention, mentioning that the junta has “firm support” from the Nigerien population, and that aggression “would not go without difficulty.”
At the same time, Tiani has stressed that he and his officials have no intention of “seizing” power. He stated that within 30 days, the Junta will give up on a plan to transition power to civilians. The entire process of reestablishing civilian rule, according to Tiani, should take “no more than three years.”
