Amid spring temperatures, high humidity and unstable weather are felt in much of the country. For this Thursday, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued a yellow alert for rain and storms for the entire territory of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) and towns in the northeast, south and east of Buenos Aires.
According to information from the agency under the Ministry of Defense, “possible meteorological phenomena with the capacity to cause damage and risk of momentary interruption of daily activities” are expected throughout the day.
According to the SMN, the City of Buenos Aires and its surroundings will suffer the arrival of rains and storms, some of them of varying intensity. These conditions are expected to be mainly characterized by abundant rainfall in short intervals, with occasional gusts of wind and hail falling in localized areas.
“Cumulative precipitation values between 20 and 50 millimeters are estimated, and may be exceeded in a timely manner,” it was officially warned.
In this context, it is recommended not to take out the garbage; remove objects that prevent water from draining; avoid outdoor activities and take shelter near trees and utility poles that may fall. Likewise, it is advisable not to stay on beaches, rivers, lagoons or pools, to be vigilant in case of possible hail fall, to get information from the authorities and to always have an emergency backpack ready with a flashlight, radio, documents and telephone.
While the yellow alert for storms is in effect, the day in the City of Buenos Aires began with mostly cloudy skies and 94% humidity. During the morning, the temperature will remain at 15°C, which is the minimum expected for today. However, a rise in temperatures is expected in the afternoon, reaching maximums of 17°C. Rainfall probabilities range from 40% to 70%, and are forecast throughout the day.
