Lucky, a 14-year-old border terrier dog, undertook a journey of more than 160 kilometers to be reunited with his owners. Neighbors of the community of Chancy, in Switzerland, made the report on the sighting of the canine on the road at dawn on August 1, the police responded to the call and noticed the presence of the animal that looked exhausted.
According to the police report, the agents found the old border terrier and scanned his microchip, as they had believed that the animal escaped from one of the houses in the area. Officials called the border terrier’s guardians to notify them of the pet’s rescue, however, the guardians were on vacation in Germany.
Lucky’s owners got a big surprise when they found out that their dog had escaped from the kennel, they asked a friend to come get the dog and he guarded it until they returned from their trip.

The border terrier escaped on the night of July 31 and was found that same morning in Lake Geneva, just at the time the fireworks display for Swiss national holidays began. Jennifer Wagner, owner of Lucky, commented in an interview for the Swiss public broadcaster RTS that she is relieved that her pet has been rescued by the police.
Wagner explained that there was a hole in the kennel fence where Lucky had been left in charge. “I feel lucky that he is healthy, that he has not died or been injured. It was a big scare for us,” the tutor commented on how relieved they felt to have received the call from the Geneva authorities.
Lucky’s agents and owners said they were quite surprised by the place where the animal was found, since it traveled 160 kilometers in a short period of time. After a medical examination of the border terrier, they realized that he had no injuries, however, he had “acquired” a few ticks.

“I don’t think it’s possible that he ran all the way. It’s 160 kilometers. That is impossible for a dog in such a short time,” Jennifer Wagner commented on the long journey of her pet. She believes that her pet was helped by a person who simply found it on the road and took it to Geneva.

Veterinarians consulted by the EFE news agency highlighted that this breed is very resistant despite its small size, however, they do not rule out that its 160-kilometer journey is a historical milestone. The distance covered by the border terrier is equivalent to an average trip of two and a half hours by car.
According to information from the American Kennel Club (AKC), an organization specializing in pedigree dogs, border terriers are a breed that can do hard work, are brave and affectionate as pets.
