In a new attack on the press, the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro, lashed out on Friday, August 11, 2023, against the media that, according to him, are misrepresenting the information about his return trip to the country, after participating in the Amazon Summit that took place in Belem do Pará (Brazil), and was chaired by the local president, Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva.

Through his Twitter account, the head of state launched harsh darts at the press which, according to him, have misrepresented the information regarding the flight back to the country, which was delayed -according to the official version- by Adverse weather conditions prevented the Colombian Aerospace Force plane, FAC 001, from taking off towards Bogotá.
“Media, in an effort to shower the information of the presidency with lies, even go to the extreme of changing the real weather conditions and putting this misinformation in the mouths of unnamed sources,” said the head of state.

In his publication, the president cited the message released by the Administrative Department of the Presidency (DAPRE), in which it was specified that, due to climatic factors, the flight scheduled for Wednesday, August 9, 2023 could not be carried out. between Belem do Pará and Bogotá; in a report that was reviewed and approved by General Luis Carlos Córdoba, commander of the FAC.
With this trill, the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro, attacked the Colombian media for what he called “disinformation” regarding his return flight from the Amazon Summit.
In the mentioned report of the Colombian Aerospace Force, the map is related in which it is evident that the meteorological conditions were affected by a low pressure system. In it, it is highlighted that the airspace would be affected by rain and cloudiness that would reduce the vision of the pilots.

“Belem International Airport (SBBE) reported at 4:00 p.m. HLC (Colombian Legal Time) storms generated by the presence of Cumulonimbos type clouds, which affected the aerodrome with rainfall in its vicinity, having an incidence on it between 8 and 16 kilometers”, it was explained in the report, related by DAPRE.
This was the report presented by the FAC about the weather conditions that prevented the presidential plane from flying back to the country on August 9, 2023.
The document also attached a satellite image of the climate situation in the area, which was monitored throughout the day by the authorities.
In principle, the flight was postponed to 7:00 pm local time, at 5:00 pm in Colombia. The aircraft, which was ready and with verified procedures for its flight, but after informing Colonel Hair Ardila, head of the Military House, the displacement was postponed to 8:00 pm from Belem.
But it was at that time that, after joint analysis, it was determined that “the safest and most comfortable thing” was to postpone the flight for later, or for the next day; which was, in the end, the final decision of the delegation that transported the head of state, since only on Thursday the 10th, at 8:00 am (local time) did the presidential plane depart from Brazilian soil for the capital of the Republic.
