Wissam Ben Yedder was charged with rape, attempted rape and assault by prosecutors in Nice on Friday. The 32-year-old AS Monaco attacker has been placed under judicial supervision and had to pay 900,000 euros as bail.
Ben Yedder’s younger brother has been charged with the same charges. The alleged victims are two women aged nineteen and twenty.
The events are said to have occurred on July 10 during a night out in the commune of Beausoleil in the Alpes-Maritimes department, which borders Monaco. According to public radio station France Info, the Ben Yedder brothers “forced sexual acts” on the women.
Before the news was announced, coach Adi Hütter indicated on Friday that Ben Yedder would play against Clermont Foot at the start of the season on Sunday. The striker would even wear the captain’s armband. AS Monaco has not yet responded to the latest developments.
Ben Yedder, 32, has been playing for AS Monaco since 2019. He has so far scored 98 goals and 32 assists in 167 games for the Ligue 1 club. The nineteen-time French international was previously active at Sevilla and Toulouse.
