The crisis worsens in the ranks of Vox. The number six on the list for Madrid, Juan Luis Steegmann, has announced this Thursday that he resigns from his act of deputy and will not be part of the parliamentary group in the next legislature. The doctor, who got his seat in Congress after the departure of Iván Espinosa de los Monteros, former spokesman for the formation, has also advanced that he will leave his posts in the party’s national leadership.
Juan Luis Steegmann was one of the most relevant figures of the extreme right in the last legislature, although he also received a lot of criticism for publicly showing himself in favor of vaccines when the most reactionary wing of the party systematically denied their effects. In the general elections on July 23, Vox obtained five seats for the Madrid constituency, so, at first, the doctor was left out of the chamber. The departure of Espinosa de los Monteros meant his automatic entry into the Lower House, although the former deputy has preferred to decline the “opportunity”.
