Saint Therese Benedict of the Cross († 1942)

Born into a Polish Jewish family, a university professor, Edith Stein converted to Catholicism in 1921. She entered the Carmel of Echt in Holland in 1938, under the name of Sister Thérèse-Bénédicte de la Croix. Deported to Auschwitz, she died on August 9, 1942.
