André van Duin is going to make a new series of Animal Crackers for broadcaster MAX. The last episodes aired in 2018.
Broadcasting boss Jan Slagter shared the news on Wednesday evening in talk show De Oranjezomer.
“In September we will be filming all animals with a cameraman for a month,” says Slagter. “And then André will edit that and do the voices. It’s painstaking work.”
Slagter hinted that Jannie van der Heijden will also play a role in the program, although it is not clear what exactly she will do. Omroep MAX could not be reached for comment at this time.
In recent years, Van Duin has often expressed the wish to make a new start with Animal Crackers. In the series, which was shown between 1988 and 2018, the 76-year-old Van Duin provided animal films with voices. They were episodes that lasted a few minutes at most. The last new episodes were shown in 2018, as the conclusion of the program Time for MAX.
Earlier, the comedian expressed the fear that filming in a zoo is no longer allowed, because “animals should no longer be made a fool of”. Van Duin stated in 2021 to investigate whether he could use archive footage from, for example, the BBC or YouTube videos.
