SNCF judged for the derailment of a TGV

The trial of SNCF, two of its subsidiaries and three of their employees for the derailment of a test TGV, which left 11 dead and 42 injured in November 2015 in Eckwersheim (Bas-Rhin), will be held in Paris from March 4 to May 16, 2024. During the investigation, the railway experts considered that the tilting and then the derailment of the train had been caused by “excessive speed” and late braking.

Progress to be made in nutrition taxation

In 2012, France introduced a tax on drinks containing added or sweetened sugars, such as sodas and sweetened fruit juices. To make this nutritional tax more effective in the fight against obesity, the Council of compulsory levies recommended Thursday, July 27 to increase the scales. He also recommends extending the base of the tax to soy drinks or syrups, hitherto excluded, and eventually broadening the scope. He cites products with a high sugar content such as cereals and confectionery and those containing harmful additives.
